Luis Mateo Liendo completed an internship during the summer of 2020 with the Chicago Literary Hall of Fame, continuing work he started earlier in the year for a Knox College arts administration class.

Hailey Nguyen '21 completed a 2020 summer internship with the regulatory affairs team at the global biopharmaceutical company AbbVie.

Joey Dorgan Jr. '21 spent the summer of 2020 working at the Center for Disabilities and Development at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, which focuses on improving the mental health of individuals with disabilities. After graduating from Knox, he plans to attend medical school and pursue a career in sports medicine.

Daniel Bien '22, who recently completed his second year at Knox, took on community-based projects in an internship with the Lake County (Illinois) State's Attorney's Office during the summer of 2020. A year earlier, Daniel spent part of the summer at the IIT Chicago-Kent Pre-Law Undergraduate Scholars (PLUS) Program. He majors in political science and environmental studies, is a saxophonist for the Knox Jazz Ensemble, a member of the Student Senate, a member of Phi Gamma Delta, a TRIO student, and a member of the Pre-Law Club.

Knox College student Charles Broomfield '22 interned remotely during the summer of 2020 with the Argonne National Laboratory in the Strategic Security Sciences Division.

Alex Davis spent the summer of 2020 as an intern studying Chinese Mahayana Buddhism. He chose to pursue this path out of a desire to better understand the meditative practice and way of life from an exclusively Buddhist point of view.

Emilie Barrett '20 came to college with a vague idea of some activities she enjoyed. With the guidance of professors and staff, she has transformed that idea first into a passion, then a career goal, and now a plan complete with achievable steps, mentors, and resources. Her latest step on that path is an internship with the archives in the Knox Seymour Library, where Barrett is cataloging a massive collection of documents with signatures from famous people throughout history. "Sharon basically built the internship for me," Barrett said, referring to Sharon Clayton, associate librarian at Seymour Library. "I've always loved history and organization," said Barrett, who is a history major and classics minor. "Back home, my friends and I would go to museums, just to look at cool old stuff for fun. When I first came to Knox, I thought that I wanted to go into museum studies, because I thought it involved me sitting in an archive going through pieces of paper and objects and describing them. That's not a fun image for a lot of people, but it is for me."

In addition to taking several medical classes, Jocelyn Perez '19 shadowed physicians and gained experience at hospital work in Argentina.

Raph Adeyemi, who plays on the Prairie Fire men's soccer team, interned with Verraki Partners, a Nigeria-based business solutions company during the summer of 2020.

Samuel interned at the Weill Cornell Medical College, where he gained real-world experience in computational genetics.

Neha Motwani '20 completed an internship and classes at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Ravi Ibrado '20 took classes, shadowed doctors, and participated in health clinics during his internship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Dea interned with the Augusta Police Department to better understand what it would be like to be a psychologist working in law enforcement.

Carmen Garcia did lab and clinical work at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, a collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Music student Samantha Burgess '18 interned with Conductor Kira Omelchenko '05 in what was the culmination of a mentorship through the Knox Alumni Mentoring Program (KAMP).

Twelve Knox College students spent an immersive term taking classes and conducting an internship in the fields of clinical psychology and social work.

Anthropology and Sociology major Jaki Herrmann '19 interned at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, IL.

Karla Medina pursued her social justice passion through research on the New Communities program and her internship at A+ Media.

Jasmine Artis '19 interned with the fiscal department of the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. She used the funds from her Mellon Fellowship to cover living expenses in Madison, Wisconsin, while interning.

Eli Adams '19 participated in Loyola University's Stritch School of Medicine ASPIRE program, specifically the HEAL module, which stands for Health Equity and Advocacy Leaders. HEAL is a weeklong experience dedicated to discussing health disparities in the US.

Adeline Gomez '19 sought and found a service-oriented internship for the summer of 2017, when she interned at World Relief, an organization that provides aid to refugees all over the world.

Rebecca Katz '18 interned in the Czech Republic last summer at the Institute of Microbiology Academy of Sciences. She worked specifically at the Center for Nanobiology and Structural Biology, which helped her build essential skills for her career in chemistry.

Deja Jenkins '19 uses a Mellon Foundation Grant to intern with NAEIR, a Galesburg-based nonprofit that offers discount supplies for other nonprofit organizations. Jenkins contributes to the marketing and media team.

Erika Riley '19 used her Mellon Fellowship to intern with New York Spaces magazine in Manhattan. Riley is the current editor-in-cheif of The Knox Student and the internship is a step forward in her already impressive journalsim career.
