Prairie Fire Cross Country Team Sets Records/PR's at Regional

Nine members of the Prairie Fire cross country team competed in the NCAA Regional on Saturday, November 11, 2017. More than 250 runners ran in the race.

Rebecca Katz, in the final race of her career, set the sixth fastest mark in school history with a time of 23:52. She now holds the nine fastest times in the Knox record books for her historic career. Frances Larsen finished close behind Katz with a 24:04, which puts her in second place on the all-time individual list at Knox behind Katz. Strong performances from senior Marisa Miller (27:35, a seven-second PR), Danica Dosmann (28:02) and senior Mariel Guzman (29:24, a 22-second season PR) rounded out the Knox Top 5.

Arthur Santoro and Samuel Hernandez finished within half a second of each other at 26:48.3 and 26:48.8, respectively. Both runners find themselves in the top-25 individual times at 17th for Santoro and 18th for Hernandez. They also both earned personal records, Santoro by 10 seconds and Hernandez by 32 seconds. Taisei Nishiki finished 3rd for Knox with a 28:00, 1:15 faster than his previous best. Stellar performances from Isaac Hughes (28:20, a four-second all-time PR) and Jonathan Rico (28:40, a 12-second all-time PR) rounded out the Knox Top 5.

The cross country teams finish a strong season with strong times on both sides. The future looks bright for the purple and gold.
